ABA Therapy in Bergen County New Jersey

ABA Therapy Services in Bergen County

Our New Jersey licensed applied behavior analysts, each with at least 10 or 12 years of experience, are dedicated to helping children on the autism spectrum and their families. All of our behavior analysts are certified above the master’s degree level and specialize in neurological and mental health disorders, social work in home settings, residential and inpatient rehabilitation, education and training, special education, developmental disablities, functional living skills, and criminal justice. When Governor Phil Murphy signed the Applied Behavior Analyst Licensing Act on January 13, 2020, our therapists were already national board-certified.

Your Insurance Company

Our services begin with an assessment, a meeting with your entire family, and a phone call to your insurance company. The state of New Jersey requires your insurance company to pay for treatment of your child’s autism spectrum disorder. All insurance plans pay for the diagnosis and treatment of ASD to a specified annual limit. Your coverage limit may vary by age. Our office manager has 15 years of experience dealing with insurance companies and is dedicated to helping patients with autism spectrum disorders.

Our Initial Assessment
Your child’s initial assessment, usually done in your home, is based on numerous psychological surveys and diagnostic tests. Your child’s scores on his initial assessments are measures of his or her baseline behavioral, intellectual, and social performance. Our therapist can tell you how your child’s scores compare to the scores of his peers, other children on the autism spectrum, and to other children his or her age. Our licensed achievement behavior therapist develops your child’s learning plan based on his or her assessed ability to learn and your child’s initial environmental, intellectual, emotional, social, and motor skills scores.

Your Diagnostic Code
Your child’s diagnosis determines what occupational, physical, and speech therapy is medically necessary, and our therapist prescribes a treatment plan to precisely develop your autistic child’s academic, behavioral, enviromental, and social skills. Your insurance policy may specifically state that when the primary diagnosis is autism, behavioral intervention based on applied behavioral analysis is medically necessary. Your comprehensive disablility policy may help pay expenses for treatment of childhood autism. Medicaid may help. Your child may be eligible for social security disability.

Direct Care
Your child with a diagnosis of childhood autism may need medication, physical therapy, exercise, speech therapy, and behavior therapy. Our applied behavior therapist can work with your child one on one to help your child take care of himself and succeed at home and in the public school. Our behavior therapist can teach your child how to get up, get dressed, and get ready for school or how to get ready for bed, lay clothes for the next day, and turn on his or her alarm clock. Our board certified behavior analyst who cares about your child during his day at school can help your child learn and socialize with others in the classroom with goals to become independent.

Behavior Intervention Plans
Our applied behavior analysts share the mission of the Bergen County public school system to orient your child to learn, contribute positively to his or her community, and become self-sufficient in the 21st century global economy. Unlike the public school, our therapists are on call and available 24 hours every day to help you and your child with challenges and destructive behavior. Our behavior intervention plans (BIP) are steps your child’s teachers can follow to stop your child’s disruptive, asocial, or aggressive behavior and keep him or her in the classroom learning contructively. BIPs, like individual learning programs (IEPs), are revised at least twice each year.

Responsibility and Self-Sufficiency
Our behavior intervention plans reward successful and discourage negative or ineffective behavior. Both teachers and parents work together on identifying behavior to change. Your child’s BIP explains his or her behavior and responses to it with strategies for improvement. Parents are notified if the strategy fails. Feedback from teachers helps our applied behavior therapist and your child solve problems, cope, and practice better social skills. Our BIPs hold your child responsible for asking for breaks, help, or information.
