Different types of treatment can help your children to prosper. For example, they might be enrolled in a school with a host of services to assist them. However, you should also consider the benefits of direct care.
Receive One-to-one Therapy
Autism is a condition that is just as diverse as the individuals who have it. Your child’s needs are not going to be exactly the same as another child’s. One-to-one therapy means that the needs of your children are directly addressed. With the therapists, you can work together to create a plan that makes sense and that focuses on the direction that your kids are heading in. Also, this level of attention can help your kids to prosper. Instead of feeling lost in a group of others, they can receive direct assistance.
Direct Care Works Toward Independence
This approach also helps your children to work toward a greater level of independence. Independence has different meanings for different children. For example, you might want your kids to be independent enough to brush and floss their teeth alone before going to bed, or you might be working on getting them to walk to the bus stop in the morning. One-on-one care means that your kids can work on their personal independence goals, not general ones established for a larger group.
The ability to learn is often heightened when children with autism receive direct care. In a large classroom setting, it can be more difficult to determine if your children have taken steps forward. In fact, you might constantly compare them to the others in the room. With one-on-one care, you can see the steps that they have made throughout the program. In other words, you are comparing them only to themselves.
Direct Care Helps Develop Everyday Skills
While you do also want to focus on larger skills, such as academic and social success, you also want to encourage your children to embrace and excel at everyday skills. Each child is different when it comes to these situations. Working with a professional in one-on-one care for ABA therapy can mean that you see changes in everyday tasks, such as tying shoes or combing hair.
One-on-one care means personalized attention. When you enroll your children in this program, you can begin to see differences in how they approach life.
Research over the last 40+ years has shown the efficacy of ABA Therapy for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
